There’s no secret that Pope Leo XIV is a Chicago Whtie Sox fan. The first American-born pontiff, a native of Chicago, was seen proudly wearing the team’s baseball hat. The Pope was spotted during a general audience at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.

It was a rare sighting to see the Pope wear an MLB team’s hat, or rather, something unusual that was not seen before. The pope, born Robert Francis Prevost, has been a dedicated supporter of the team for years. He was also spotted attending the 2005 World Series, where the White Sox swept the Houston Astros to win their first championship since 1917.

After the image of him sporting the hat went viral on social media, fans erupted with priceless reactions.

“Thanks, Mr. Pope. All of WS fans need all the help we can get,” one fan said.

“They need all the help they can get,” another fan wrote.

“God is about the only thing that’ll help the White Sox,” one fan replied.

“He better bless the team cause they last and 20 games behind in the central division,” one fan chimed in.

“People will finally remember that the White Sox won the World Series in 2005,” one fan wrote.

“A man of faith cuz supporting the White Sox must be painful,” another fan wrote.

2024 was the worst year for the club as they went down in franchise history for losing consecutive games. 2025 has been slightly better, but they still remain the worst team in the American League.

They sit at the bottom of the division with a 23-44 record. However, they are way better than the miserable Colorado Rockies and are not far behind the Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, and Baltimore Orioles. The White Sox are currently ranked 29th in the week 11 MLB power rankings.
