Life is short, and it can come in the most unexpected ways, as more than 200 people found out on the doomed Air India flight.

The plane bound for London carrying 242 people crashed shortly after take-off in western India on Thursday.

Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8, came down in the residential area of Meghani Nagar five minutes after taking off. Footage posted to social media showed the aircraft rapidly losing altitude before it hit a building and exploded into a ball of fire.

In the hours since the crash, footage has begun to trickle out, showing how devastating everything was.

Just moments before the Air India Boeing crash, two UK nationals could be seen on video smiling and enjoying life, not knowing their fate was already sealed.

A British man appears to have survived the Air India plane disaster, which claimed the lives of at least 200 other people.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh claims he escaped almost certain death after jumping off the passenger plane as it burst into flames in the Indian city of Ahmedabad.

The video shows a man walking away from what is thought to be the site of the crash and heading to an ambulance. Separate footage shows him being treated in hospital for what appears to be minor injuries.

Vishwash, who was in seat 11A on the doomed plane, only appeared to have a slight limp.

He told the Hindustan Times: “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me.

“I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me.

“Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”
