Jack Della Maddalena is living his dream at the moment. Going up against the former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, the Aussie fighter clinched a well deserved decision victory. However, within hours of his triumph, a little cloud of darkness is threatening his silver lining. Della Maddalena will be facing Islam Makhachev as his first opponent next. But ahead of the fight, his coach is utterly convinced how the fight would pan out.
Ben Vickers recently appeared on the ‘Submission Radio’ podcast. Speaking about the Makhachev-Della Maddalena fight, coach Vicker made a pretty bold claim. He insisted that it will be Della Maddalena who will become the number 1 pound for pound fighter. Vicker also pointed out how Makhachev looked in a bit of a problem when Dustin Poirier hit him on the face.
“I’ve never watched Makhachev before as a potential opponent. I’ve always just enjoyed him fighting because he’s brilliant to watch, but I think Jack will knock him out. Poirier only hit (Makhachev) once in the first round, and when he got the takedown afterwards, he was wincing and rubbing his eye,” said Vickers.
Vickers further stated how he feels Makhachev is not used to taking damage. Thus, when Della Maddalena comes hard at him, things are bound to get interesting. Meanwhile, with all the hype building up, Della Maddalena has vowed to avenge the loss of his fellow Aussie legend, Alexander Volkanovski.
Jack Della Maddalena Vows To Avenge Alexander Volkanovski’s Loss

As Islam Makhachev braces to face off against Jack Della Maddalena, the fight is not just a mere title defence for the Australian fighter. It is about defending and avenging the loss of Alexander Volkanovski. Incidentally, Volkanovski too, went one on one against Makhachev. Unfortunately, the UFC featherweight champion lost on both occasions. Thus, Della Maddalena has decided to give it back to his legendary countryman.
“It’s a beautiful challenge… I’m gonna get it back for Volk,” said Della Maddalena.
