Former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky believes Joe Burrow could ask out of Cincinnati if the team fails to make a postseason run in 2026.

Drew Brees believes one player among Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow is poised to win his first championship.

A comeback story is always motivating and inspiring for people to read about or witness on TV shows and movies. However, when it comes to comebacks in sports, there’s a lot of intense action, drama, and excitement, whether from a team or an individual perspective. When the 2026 regular season kicks off, we’re going to be treated to some wild and epic comebacks by individual athletes recovering from injuries and looking to play the best football of their lives after a down season. Here at TPS, we’re going to look at 10 NFL players who are plotting an epic comeback for the 2026 regular season and give our take on them. Which NFL stars are on a comeback trail in 2026? Patrick MahomesPatrick Mahomes (Photo Via Imagn Images) Mahomes is plotting an epic comeback for the ages after recovering from a torn ACL and LCL he endured in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2025 season. Mahomes underwent accelerated rehabilitation, working closely with the Chiefs’ physical therapist, Julie Frymyer, and gained full medical clearance in July, as he looks to start for the team by Week One. He is learning to adapt to potentially limited initial mobility, as his knee strength builds, even though he rushed for a career-high 422 yards in 2025. Not to mention, Mahomes is transitioning to more pocket passing, as he looks to thrive on the inside of the safety pocket, rather than take any jarring risks. The Chiefs’ signing of Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III will help relieve Mahomes from using his legs, as he’s a true physical workhorse running back. Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy also returns to the Chiefs, who helped Mahomes and the Chiefs win two Super Bowls, and will tailor an offensive scheme that will help him mask his personal flaws and maximize more pocket passes. George KittleGeorge Kittle. Credit: Ken Blaze-Imagn Images After suffering an Achilles injury during the 49ers’ Wildcard Playoff win against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kittle is planning a wild comeback for the ages in the NFL in 2026. Surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed a successful surgery on Kittle in mid-January 2026, expressing strong optimism in Kittle’s recovery, as the tear was in a best-case scenario location, and the surgical team didn’t need to drill into Kittle’s heel bone to anchor the tendon. Because of that, Kittle is ahead of schedule in his recovery, thanks to advanced stem-cell treatments and his decision to opt into the SpeedBridge procedure. Kittle has gone through six months of a heavy-lifting regimen post-surgery, and went viral for deadlifting a massive 665 pounds for reps, and handling multi-round golf walking excursions just eight weeks post-op. When back on the field, Kittle is about 30 receptions, 67 yards, and seven touchdowns away from matching the career stat averages of current Hall of Fame tight ends, which will for sure earn him a bust in Canton. In mid-July, Kittle resumed running routes, even though the 49ers originally placed him on the physically unable to perform list (PUP list). Team general manager John Lynch has said Kittle is doing everything he can to suit up for the season opener. Kittle is expected to return to an expanded role on the 49ers’ offense, and he has expressed excitement about working with veteran wide receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk joining the roster. Kyler MurrayKyler Murray. Credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images After dealing with a grueling foot injury, which also ended his tenure with the Arizona Cardinals, Murray is ready to make an epic comeback with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2026 season. Murray signed a low-risk $1.3 million deal with the Vikings during the offseason, opening the door for quarterback competition between him and J. J. McCarthy, who had an awful 2025 season. If Murray wins the starting job, he’ll work with one of the league’s best pass-catchers, consisting of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, along with T. J. Hockenson. Not to mention, head coach Kevin O’Connell is a quarterback guru who has gotten the best out of Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold when they played for the Vikings. Because Murray missed 21 games over the past few seasons due to his ACL tear and foot injury, 2026 marks the furthest he’s been from his major knee surgery. Analysts have projected that Murray will be fully healthy and ready to maximize his dual-threat capabilities under O’Connell’s watch. Murray will also have to adjust to O’Connell’s under-center offense, as he was used to being in shotgun formations during his time with the Cardinals, but he should have no problem learning from him, as it has the potential to improve his downfield efficiency. It should be exciting to see Murray rebound with the Vikings and play fairly well for them in the regular season if he earns the starting job for Week One. Malik NabersMalik Nabers. Credit: Julian Leshay Guadalupe/NorthJersey.com / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Nabers is plotting his 2026 comeback by focusing on a physical ramp-up following a complex knee injury he suffered during Week Four of the 2025 NFL season. Following Nabers’ ACL surgery in October 2025, he underwent a second cleanup surgery in early 2026. The surgery targeted a cyclops lesion (scar tissue buildup) that limited his knee’s range of motion and was causing him stiffness. In recent good news for Nabers, the Giants didn’t place him on the PUP list at the start of training camp, keeping him eligible to get suited up for the team’s week one matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at home. Nabers has been performing well at training camp practice by participating in individual route-running drills and walkthroughs. He has also stated he’s simply stacking the days to let his body set the pace for what’s to come. When Nabers is back on the field for games, he’ll likely become Jaxson Dart’s X-factor receiver in a brand new offensive scheme drawn up by offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. We, as football fans, are looking forward to seeing Nabers catch passes from Dart and help in their respective development. Aaron DonaldAaron Donald (Photo Via Imagn Images) Although Aaron Donald retired from play after the 2023 season, there have been rumors about him wanting to come out of retirement and rejoin the Rams after all of their incredible offseason acquisitions for Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie, and Jaylon Watson. Having the potential opportunity to play with Garrett on defense would be once in a lifetime, as both Donald and Garrett are two elite defenders who know how to cause havoc against opposing offenses. Donald completed a 45-minute workout for the Rams in full helmet and pads at the team’s training facility, which is a sign that he wants to be back on the field. At 35 years old, Donald is using his multi-year retirement sabbatical as a physical advantage, which allows his joints to fully heal. If Donald does rejoin the Rams, head coach Sean McVay and the team are expected to completely bypass training camp and use a heavily condensed practice schedule, which will optimize him for a late-season run and a deep playoff run. Seeing Donald on the field again would be the ultimate cherry on top for the Rams, as they’re currently favored to win Super Bowl LXI, thanks to their offseason moves, as mentioned earlier. Micah ParsonsMicah Parsons. Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Parsons is planning his epic 2026 comeback in the NFL by targeting a potential return during the Packers’ week six matchup against his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. As we know, Parsons is still recovering from a non-contact ACL injury he suffered in the Packers’ Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos and is currently on the PUP list. Instead of focusing on the delay, Parsons has been leveraging a fierce mindset for his return, with grueling daily rehab and learning a new defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Parsons has arrived at Lambeau Field daily at 7:30 a.m. to train with team athletic trainer Nate Weir; he goes through mental reps via film review, learning defensive installations, and walk-throughs to be fully synchronized with the team’s playbook. When Parsons returns to action, he issued a warning to his opponents, saying, “People are worried about the knee; they should be worried about how I’m feeling going to play when I get back. The anger, the frustration, the things that I’m going to have to let out because of how it’s been since I played… that’s what people should really worry about.” Parsons has also stated that he feels more stable than ever, which is a huge warning sign for opposing offenses that have to square off against him and the Packers in key games. Joe BurrowCincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (Sam Greene/The Enquirer-USA TODAY NETWORK) Burrow is plotting his epic comeback for the 2026 NFL season by re-engineering his on-field playstyle, relying on a custom medical insert that will protect his lower body, and capitalizing on the newly rebuilt Bengals’ defense. Burrow and head coach Zac Taylor are installing a revamped systematic approach by spending time during training camp reps taking snaps directly under center rather than operating from the shotgun. This shift aims to establish a more consistent ground game that’ll give Burrow time for extra deep-ball play-action opportunities to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, with the intention of limiting drop-back hits. Burrow is wearing a specialized protective plate inside his left shoe to anchor his planting foot and support his repaired toe, which was injured with a turf toe in the 2025 season. Burrow has said he plans to wear this plate for the rest of his career. On top of that, this Bengals team is the most talented it’s been in a long while, as the front office did everything they could to establish a win-now roster around Burrow for a chance at making a deep playoff run. If Burrow and the Bengals reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2022 season, it would be one of the most satisfying comebacks the league will witness. Nick BosaNick Bosa (Matt Kartozian-Imagn Images) After dealing with an injured ACL that cut his season short, Bosa is planning an epic comeback for the 2026 season, focusing on structural leg changes and a slower, more methodical rehabilitation schedule to achieve a faster, more effective return. In a major shift from previous recoveries, Bosa has noted that he is purposefully carrying less mass in his legs, as he realized he moved much faster with less muscle volume from his 2020 ACL recovery. Embracing this change again has made Bosa much faster and should increase his speed, generating greater functional power off the edge for more powerful results. Bosa went through a hyper-intensive rehab timeline and structured an 11-month physical therapy process, which paid off when he was cleared to start training camp without being placed on the PUP list. The 49ers struggled without Bosa’s presence on defense, finishing the 2025 season with just 20 sacks. With Bosa back in the lineup in 2026, it’ll take the 49ers’ defense to new heights for the upcoming NFL season. Bosa also steps into a mentorship role for the upcoming regular season, as he’ll groom the younger defensive linemen and edge rushers, like Mykel Williams and rookie Romello Height, for the intensity of NFL action. Mandatory Credit: Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images After dealing with an injury-riddled 2025 season, Daniels is planning his epic comeback in 2026 by transforming his physical frame, stepping into a newly modified offensive scheme, and having access to new offensive weapons for the upcoming NFL season. To handle the physical toll of the league’s best defenses, Daniels spent the offseason focused on durability by bulking up and adding lean muscle mass to serve as more armor against the hits that sidelined him in the 2025 season. The Commanders replaced Kliff Kingsbury with new offensive coordinator David Blough, who’ll implement a new, much safer scheme for Daniels to work with instead of the shotgun-heavy spreads from 2025. By keeping Daniels under center, it naturally creates deeper pockets, resulting in better play-action opportunities. Coaches have emphasized that winning in the pocket first will reduce downfield hits, even though Daniels is an elite rusher. The Commanders’ front office spent the offseason acquiring Daniels’ new offensive weapons for him to work with, such as Stefon Diggs, Chig Okonkwo, and rookie receiver Antonio Williams, which will do wonders for Daniels. Not to mention, the offensive line was further bolstered by signing Laremy Tunsil to a two-year, $60.2 million extension, providing Daniels with the protection he needs. With Daniels fully healthy for the 2026 regular season, it puts him in a strong position to erase the 2025 season and possibly guide the Commanders back to the playoffs for a serious run. Odell Beckham Jr.Odell Beckham Jr (Photo By Danielle Parhizkaran / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) When OBJ re-signed with the Giants, it opened the door for him to orchestrate his epic comeback for the 2026 season. OBJ is now focusing his strategy on making the final 53-man roster, as he’s dropped weight to reduce the burden on his previously injured knees. OBJ has been taking advantage of extra opportunities while fellow receiver Malik Nabers works his way back from his ACL injury by stringing impressive, fully padded practices and earning first-team reps with starting quarterback Jaxson Dart. Unlike his first stint with the Giants, Beckham Jr. is in mentorship mode, as he’s been praised for his maturity, mellow attitude, and locker-room leadership. Not to mention, he’s familiar with head coach John Harbaugh, who coached OBJ during his brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens. If OBJ makes the Giants’ 53-man roster and stays productive during the regular season, it’ll be a great win in his book and proof that he still has some fuel in the tank in the NFL in 2026.

The internet has had a field day (more like a field week) poking fun at Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. It’s been a rough couple of days for the former LSU standout. But no need to feel bad for the 25-year-old NFL star… he and his team brought this online firestorm upon themselves. All of the “Number 5” memes that have taken over social media this past week stem from an actual cease and desist that Daniels sent his alma […] The post The Very Best Of The Jayden Daniels Number 5 Memes first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

The past few years have been disheartening for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. In November 2023, Burrow tore ligaments in his throwing wrist, a season-ending injury. The 2020 No. 1 overall pick played spectacularly throughout the 2024 NFL season, leading the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns. But the Bengals finished 9-8 and missed…

The Cincinnati Bengals offensive line has been a topic of much discussion since the team drafted quarterback Joe Burrow in 2020. Fortunately for Cincinnati, despite their issues that have led to them missing the postseason in three consecutive seasons, the offensive line appears to have been much improved in recent seasons. The Kansas City Chiefs spent much of the 2025 NFL season dealing with frustration both on and off the field. To say that the quarterback is the most important player on the football field would be a huge understatement. The quarterback has always been an important position, but changes to the rules that favor the passing game have elevated it to new heights. Today’s NFL game runs through the quarterback position. But not every quarterback is built the same. Some teams have great quarterbacks, some have horrible ones, and some teams are blessed with quarterbacks who are more bust than boom. Let’s take a look at 10 quarterbacks who fit the definition of overrated. Who are the most overrated NFL quarterbacks in 2026? Tua Tagovailoa – Atlanta FalconsDec 21, 2025; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (1) warms up before the game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images If we’re making a list of overrated NFL quarterbacks, it has to start with Tua Tagovailoa. Throughout the 2019 season, the Dolphins on field play appeared to fit the “Tank for Tua” narrative, resulting in his being drafted 5th overall by the Miami Dolphins in 2020. Since being named the starter in South Beach, Tua has been inconsistent at best. While he led the league in Passing Yards in 2023, with 4,624 yards, and led the Dolphins to the playoffs, he has not lived up to the hype. A quick glance at Tua’s career stats does not paint an accurate picture of his standing in the league. Tagovailoa has a career record of 44-32, 120 touchdowns to 59 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 68%. However, over the last 6 seasons, Tua’s weaknesses have been repeatedly exposed, showing that the quarterback is nowhere near worth the 4-year, $212.4 million extension he signed in 2024. In fact, Tua was cut by the Dolphins after the 2025 season and signed a 1-year deal worth the league minimum in Atlanta, where he will look to resurrect his career. Shedeur Sanders – Cleveland BrownsShedeur Sanders (Credit: Ken Blaze-Imagn Images) There’s no question that Shedeur Sanders is a talented quarterback. The problem is that there is no way he could live up to the hype that he entered the NFL with. Sanders had a very successful, but brief, college career. He played 2 seasons with Colorado, throwing for over 7,300 yards with 64 touchdowns. Entering the 2025 Draft, there was a lot of hype on the young quarterback, but it seemed that it was more a result of his father. Sanders is the son of Hall-of-Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, who is one of the best self-promoters the sports world has ever seen. Entering the NFL is tough enough. It’s made even tougher when you are the son of a legendary player. When the hype machine is factored in, the pressure to perform goes through the roof. What didn’t help Sanders was that he was drafted by one of the most inept teams in the league – the Cleveland Browns. In 8 starts during the 2025 season, Sanders flashed his potential, but the Browns’ ineptness held him back. As long as the young QB stays in the mess that exists in Cleveland, his hype will not match his performance, labeling Shedeur Sanders as overrated. Josh Allen – Buffalo BillsJosh Allen (Image Credits: Imagn) I know I’m going to get some blowback for this selection. Let’s start with the obvious: Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today. The 4x Pro Bowler and 2024 MVP has led the Bills to 7 straight winning seasons, compiling a won-loss record of 88-39, with over 30,000 passing yards and 220 touchdowns. Based upon his on-field success and wide-ranging endorsements, the 29-year-old quarterback has clearly established himself as one of the faces of the game. So how does one of today’s star players end up on a list of overrated players? One word: playoffs. In the case of Josh Allen, it’s a lack of playoff success. Allen led the Bills to 5 straight AFC East titles, establishing them as one of the best teams in the league. But over that time period, Allen has failed to lead Buffalo to a Super Bowl appearance, including in the 2025 season when the archenemy Chiefs were absent from the playoffs. With their biggest obstacle nowhere to be seen, Allen was still unable to lead the Bills to the Super Bowl. Until Allen tastes postseason glory, he will remain on the overrated list. Kyler Murray – Minnesota VikingsKyler Murray (Jerome Miron-Imagn Images) “With the 1st overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select quarterback Kyler Murray.” With that announcement came a wave of excitement and optimism in the Phoenix area. In hindsight, do you think the Cardinals regret that decision? How about the 5-year,$230.5 million contract they signed Murray to in 2022? Think they regret that decision? Despite being paired with other star players such as Marvin Harrison Jr., Zach Ertz, James Conner, and DeAndre Hopkins, he has led the Cardinals absolutely nowhere. In the 7 injury prone seasons, Murray led the Cardinals to a 38-48-1 record. Much like another quarterback on our list (Tua), Kyler Murray was so bad in Arizona that the team released him in March 2026, and will still be paying him over $36 million in 2026 to suit up for the Minnesota Vikings. Maybe the Vikings will unlock his full potential, but based on the last six years, we’ve probably seen what Kyler Murray is. J.J. McCarthy – Minnesota VikingsSep 14, 2025; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (9) reacts after a play during the first half against the Atlanta Falcons at U.S. Bank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matt Krohn-Imagn Images In 2022, the Vikings finished the season with a 13-4 record and a loss in the Wild Card round of the playoffs with Kirk Cousins at the quarterback position. In 2024, the Vikings, with Sam Darnaud under center, finished 14-3 with a loss in the Wild Card round. Minnesota seemed like a team on the brink of realistically winning a Super Bowl. In 2025, they turned the offensive reins over to rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The 10th overall pick in 2024 came with a lot of promise and upside. Unfortunately for Viking fans, that is not what they saw. McCarthy started 10 games for Minnesota in 2025 before succumbing to a hand injury. His 2024 rookie year was also lost due to injury. The injuries and inconsistent play led the Vikings to sign free agent quarterback Kyler Murray to a one-year deal. That’s the same Kyler Murray who the Cardinals are paying over $36 million to play someplace else. Perhaps J.J. McCarthy isn’t the saving grace in Minnesota and instead will be placed into the pile of overrated quarterbacks. Dak Prescott – Dallas CowboysSep 14, 2025; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) looks at his helmet during warmups before the game against the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images What do you call a quarterback who has been selected to 4 Pro Bowls, won an Offensive Rookie of the Year award, thrown for almost 36,000 yards with 243 touchdowns, has a 66.9 career completion percentage, won 83 games, and is the signal caller for one of the most popular NFL teams in existence? If we’re talking about Dak Prescott, you call him overrated. There is no denying that Prescott is talented… in the regular season. Postseason success has simply eluded the Cowboys quarterback. In 7 career playoff games, Prescott is 2-5. The lack of playoff success calls into question Prescott’s place as one of the highest-paid players in the game, signing a 4-year, $240 million contract extension in 2024. That deal will pay him an $80 million signing bonus and $231 million in guaranteed money. That seems like a lot of money to be paying a very overrated quarterback. Lamar Jackson – Baltimore RavensBaltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (Joseph Maiorana-Imagn Images) Here is another choice for an overrated NFL quarterback that I’m sure will get a lot of pushback. Lamar Jackson is one of the biggest dual threats on a football field. His ability to throw and run the ball effectively has led to Jackson racking up multiple awards, including being named to 4 Pro Bowls, being named a 3x All-Pro, winning 2 AP MVP awards, and 2 Player of the Year awards, culminating in what is sure to be an eventual selection to the Hall of Fame when he’s done playing. But there is a black mark on Jackson’s resume. Like many of the other quarterbacks on our list, Jackson lacks playoff success. The Ravens’ signal caller has led Baltimore to the playoffs in 5 seasons, resulting in a career playoff record of 3-5. In fact, Jackson’s statistics across the board take a downward turn during the playoffs. Regular-season success with postseason failure lands Lamar Jackson on our list of overrated quarterbacks. And he may be on the move as well. Jared Goff – Detroit LionsDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16) cheers up teammates on the sideline before a first down against Green Bay Packers during the first half at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., on Sunday, September 7, 2025. It’s kinda difficult to call a person who has spent 10 years playing quarterback in the NFL, starting 151 games, winning 90 of those starts, and amassing over 39,000 yards with 256 touchdowns, overrated, but here we are with Jared Goff. Selected by the Rams with the 1st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Goff went on to lead Los Angeles to a 42-27 record over his first 5 years in the league. He did steer the Rams to Super Bowl LIII, but did not have a great day on the grandest stage. Against the Patriots that day, Goff threw for 229 yards with one interception in the 13-3 loss, which is also the lowest scoring Super Bowl on record. In fact, the Rams would not win a Super Bowl until they traded Jared Goff to the Lions for Matthew Stafford. A former first overall pick, with regular season success and postseason failure, earns Jared Goff his place among the game’s overrated quarterbacks. Justin Herbert – Los Angeles ChargersJustin Herbert (Image Credits: Imagn) As a long-suffering Dolphins fan, a team that hasn’t had a franchise quarterback in over 25 years, I would gladly take Justin Herbert as my guy under center. In fact, the Dolphins had a chance to draft Herbert in 2020 but went with Tua Tagovailoa instead. We know how that’s turned out for Miami, but how have things been for Herbert in LA? Since entering the league, Herbert has established himself as one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL. Over his first 6 seasons in the league, Herbert has been named to 2 Pro Bowls and won the 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year. He has thrown for over 24,000 yards to go along with 163 touchdowns and a win-loss record of 52-43. That is not a bad start to a career, but for the 6th overall draft pick, more has been expected from him. With Herbert under center, the Chargers have made the playoffs 3 times, being eliminated after one game all 3 times. There’s no denying that Herbert is a good quarterback, but in order to remove the overrated tag, he needs some playoff success. Joe Burrow – Cincinnati BengalsJoe Burrow (Photo By Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) This is another difficult selection for this list, as I like Joe Burrow as a quarterback and would gladly take him on my favorite team. Since entering the league during the 2020 season, Burrow has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. However, there’s one problem with that ranking – Burrow’s hasn’t done enough to warrant that level of regard. Sure, he has a winning record of 43-33-1 with a 68.5 completion percentage, over 20,000 yards thrown, and 157 touchdowns. Now for the negatives. Over the last 5 seasons, Burrow has missed multiple games due to injury, although that has allowed him to win 2 Comeback Player of the Year awards, and has not led the Bengals to playoff success. While he does hold a 5-2 career playoff record, Burrow has not led Cincy to Super Bowl success. In fact, during his only Super Bowl appearance to date, Burrow threw for 263 yards but was sacked 7 times in the loss to the Rams. It will take some playoff success to remove Joe Burrow from this list.
