Basketball fans are destroying Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy for jinxing his beloved Boston Celtics in Game 2 of their second-round series against the New York Knicks.
For the second straight game at TD Garden, the Knicks shocked the Celtics by rallying from a 20-point deficit to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Jalen Brunson’s two late free throws and Jayson Tatum’s missed buzzer beater attempt sealed a 91-90 victory for the Knicks, who head home with an improbable 2-0 series lead.
At 8:45 p.m. EST (while Boston was up 20 late in the third quarter), Dave Portnoy shared a video clip of Jaylen Brown missing an easy layup on a pass from Tatum. Portnoy said the moment hit him “like a lightning bolt,” and vowed “banner 19” in his voiceover:
When people ask me when I knew the Celtics were gonna win #banner19 it’s this moment. pic.twitter.com/Okjzt1a11W

Social media wasted no time making fun of Dave Portnoy over his latest Celtics-related tweet that aged as badly as milk:
“Seems premature in hindsight,” a user remarked.

The main issue with Dave Portnoy’s tweet this evening is that he didn’t learn his lesson. Two days earlier, Portnoy put out this very tweet before his Celtics unraveled in a shocking 108-105 overtime loss in Game 1:
I said it would be a gentleman’s sweep. I was wrong. The Knicks don’t belong in the same gym with us. #celticsin3

Boston entered this series as a massive favorite, having finished 10 games ahead of the Knicks in the regular season standings, not to mention that they’re also the defending NBA champions.
The series isn’t over by any means, but the Celtics will need their best players to play a full 48 minutes if they’re to win. Otherwise, the dream for a repeat will end in disastrous fashion.
Dave Portnoy, Like All Fans, Needs To Wait Til The End

If there’s one thing every sports fan has learned in their lifetime? As the old saying goes, “It’s not over until it’s over.” After these two games, Portnoy needs to keep that in mind and let the games play out before wrongfully declaring a victory for his Celtics.
