Social media detectives discovered a fascinating coincidence connecting President Donald Trump to the success of Texas Rangers Patrick Corbin this season.
Corbin is one of the most puzzling MLB players in history, due to his never-ending roller-coaster production. Just look at his career ERA from 2015 to 2025 (in order): 3.60, 5.15, 4.03, 3.15, 3.25, 4.66, 5.82, 6.31, 5.20, 5.62 and 3.59.
Science and analytics haven’t been able to figure out why the two-time All-Star alternates between rock-solid average and borderline unplayable. But maybe, just maybe, the answer lies in the White House.
Baseball fans on social media pointed out a rather bizarre pattern: Donald Trump has been President of the United States during Corbin’s best seasons, and Barack Obama and Joe Biden held office during his worst:

For what it’s worth, Patrick Corbin is one of the few MLB players who has publicly voiced his support for Donald Trump. During the 2020 election, Corbin tweeted a photo of himself golfing with the President with the #Trump2020 hashtag.
Corbin was named to the All-Star game in 2018 while Trump was in office, and he helped the Washington Nationals to a World Series appearance the following year. Trump attended Game 5 of the Fall Classic against the Houston Astros and was met with loud boos.
Patrick Corbin Is Having A Stellar Bounce-Back Year In Texas

Corbin struggled mightily during his last five seasons with the Nationals after leading them to a World Series championship, so not much was made out of the one-year deal he signed with Texas in the offseason.
But the 35-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for the Rangers, boasting a 3.59 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 42.2 innings pitched. If he keeps that ERA below 4.60, this will be Corbin’s best single-season mark since 2019, when he went 14-7 with an ERA of 3.25.
