The Baltimore Ravens announced a major decision on the future of kicker Justin Tucker on Monday.

The Ravens confirmed that they are releasing Tucker after 13 seasons as the team’s kicker. In a statement, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta said the decision was “incredibly difficult,” but the team made the move “considering our current roster.”

“Justin created many significant and unforgettable moments in Ravens history,” DeCosta said in the statement. “His reliability, focus, drive, resilience and extraordinary talent made him one of the league’s best kickers for over a decade.

“We are grateful for Justin’s many contributions while playing for the Ravens. We sincerely wish him and his family the very best in this next chapter of their lives.”

The Ravens insisted that the decision to release Tucker was a football move. He is coming off his worst professional season, as the 35-year-old went just 22/30 on field goal attempts. Notably, Tucker went just 11/19 on 40-yard field goal tries or greater, an area where he was elite for much of his career.

Though the team made no allusion to it in the statement, some will suspect that the decision is related to multiple allegations made against Tucker regarding his behavior in massage parlors. Tucker has vehemently denied the allegations.

The Ravens dropped a big hint about Tucker’s future with one move they made during the NFL Draft. It remains to be seen if the 35-year-old will find a landing spot in light of the ongoing NFL investigation into his conduct.
