Rafael Devers’ 2025 season with the Red Sox started out on a bad note. After acquiring Alex Bregman, the Red Sox asked Devers to give up his position to Breggy and remain as a designated hitter. It was a hard call for Devers to give up his glove after so many years.
Yet, he agreed and moved to being a DH. Now, the Red Sox want Devers to play first base in the absence of Triston Casas. Devers voiced his opinion, saying it’s not easy to switch positions. Devers called out the team for not doing their job by finding another first baseman.
“They were the ones that put me in this position, they said to me that I was going to be a DH only player, but now they want to have me kind of in-between. They should do their job, go out there and get another player to fill that position,” Rafael Devers said.

It’s common for Devers to be annoyed with the situation. Not everyone is a utility player, and not many are open to constantly shifting positions.
Rafael Devers Calls Out The Red Sox GM For Asking Him To Shift

Devers called out the Red Sox General Manager Brian O’Halloran for asking him to shift positions. The slugger mentioned that he played the game, and he should understand.
“I spoke with the General Manager. I don’t know what’s going on with him regarding me. He played baseball too, so I believe he understands that changing positions it’s not easy. I believe the game he played was a little different than the one that’s being played right now,” Devers said.
“They’ve said in the past that I’m a little hard-headed, but right now I don’t think I can change my mind. I told them what’s on my mind and that’s how I feel,” Rafael Devers continued.

Devers constantly called out the GM. He said there were no issues between him and the clubhouse, and he was unsure what was going on between O’Halloran. It’s a tough time for Devers, but he’s still been at the top of his game.
Devers has six home runs, averaging .255 with 25 RBIs in 145 at-bats. The Red Sox have improved their position to No. 9 in the week 6 MLB power rankings.
