A Pittsburgh Pirates game day employee got into a wild scuffle with a fan during Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Pirates.

According to an eyewitness account relayed by KDKA, the fight stemmed from the fan and a companion of his harassing an employee at a concession stand before being diverted from the area by the game day worker.

They got into a heated exchange that came to blows after the Pirates employee tried walking away. The aforementioned outlet claims the employee attempted to remove himself multiple times, but the fan followed and taunted him. He eventually launched a barrage of punches at the fan.

Bystanders and other employees managed to break them up, but the fan spat at the employee, who took off his belt and whipped him several times.

Pittsburgh Pirates Announce Suspension Of Employee

The Pirates have suspended the game day worker and are continuing to investigate the incident. The team said they are also reviewing security footage, which shows more than what’s seen in the clip above.

“We are aware of the unfortunate incident that occurred following the conclusion of yesterday’s game between a PNC Park gameday employee and a guest,” the Pirates said in a statement on Monday.

They added, “The employee’s behavior was entirely unacceptable, and he was immediately suspended. This incident is currently under further investigation.”

This incident follows one in which a fan fell from the stands and landed on his head from a height of 21 feet during a game against the Chicago Cubs last week. An update on his condition noted he was wide awake after being hospitalized and took his first steps on Monday.
