Michael Jordan is taking a surprising media role with NBC as the network enters NBA broadcasting again in 2025.

NBC announced Monday that Jordan is joining the network’s NBA coverage as a “special contributor.” There was no word on what, exactly, that will entail.

Jordan’s new role is definitely something of a surprise. He is not known for making many media appearances and generally keeps a low public profile. He is most commonly seen following his NASCAR team, which is not even basketball-related.

It does not sound like Jordan intends to be a regular on the network’s coverage. His role might amount to occasional features and appearances at big events.

Ultimately, Jordan may be looking to get involved again with the NBA in some form after he sold the Charlotte Hornets two years ago. Since then, his appearances at NBA events have been almost nonexistent. That may be changing now, albeit on a limited basis.

NBC is assembling a star-studded roster of talent as it returns to NBA broadcasting for the first time in 23 years. Jordan will be the biggest name, but there will be no shortage of familiar faces on their airwaves.
