Fernande Tatis Jr. and the San Deigo Padres received a lot of boos at Yankee Stadium when a controversial strike occurred. The Padres were trailing the Yankees 3-0 at the bottom of the eighth inning. Tatis walked up to the plate and was called for a strike, which he disagreed with.
The slugger swung and missed after that and said something to the home plate umpire, Adrian Johnson. The Padres’ star was ejected from the game, and manager Mike Shildt stepped in to blast Johnson. After his argument, Shildt was also ejected.

The Padres skipper, known to be calm, hardly indulges in such instances. It was his 14th ejection as a manager. Fernando Tatis walked, but Shildt shared a piece of his mind after the game in a podcast.
“I thought Tatis handled it very well. There were some pitches that he didn’t agree with, and I also didn’t agree with, and I made my comments from the dugout known, which I don’t do a ton. But then he walks away with his hand over his mouth, and next thing you know he’s ejected, walking away with his back turned,” Shildt said.

“We’ll talk about track record, I don’t have players that I manage that get ejected. I probably have the fewest amount of player ejections in my time managing. So our players just play, they stay in the game, and they’re respectful to the umpires,” Shildt continued.
The Padres manager was unhappy with the controversial call. Unlike other managers, Mike Shildt has been pretty calm in crunch situations. He’s one of the few managers to have fewer ejections.
