
The rugby community is in mourning following the tragic passing of Castres Olympique winger Josaia Raisuqe.
Raisuqe, an Olympic medalist, was on his way to practice on Thursday morning when his vehicle was hit by a train. The France-based club has since confirmed the sad news.
“Castres Olympique is in mourning.It is with heavy hearts that we learned of the death this morning of our player Josaia Raisuqe in a road accident,” Castres Olympique said in a statement published on their official website.
They added:
“The entire CO family is devastated by this terrible news. Josh had been a member of the club since 2021. He was a wonderful teammate, much loved by everyone, including the Castres supporters who had embraced him.
“We extend our sincere condolences and thoughts to his family and loved ones.

The rugby star represented Fiji in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, winning silver. He was only 30 years old.
Josaia Raisuqe meant a whole lot more than a great rugby player to the people of Fiji, whom he supported by giving back to. Castres Olympique president Pierre-Yves Revol described him as a “radiant young man” and “a pillar of the Fijian community.”

News of Josaia’s death prompted thousands of tributes from players, coaches, and fans.

Raisuqe had been with Castres Olympique since 2021, having played for several other clubs in France, including Stade Français and Nevers.
He was known for his pace and powerful running and was an important player for both his club and his country.
