Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the new Pope, and the New York Knicks fans are the happiest.
Recently, like many of the NY fans, Spike Lee just took his love for the team to a whole new level. The legendary Oscar-winning director and die-hard Knicks fan had a long Instagram post dedicated to Pope.
He recently reacted to the Vatican’s election of the new Pope. And in true Spike fashion, he declared it a “holy omen” for the Knicks.
In an energetic post, Spike highlighted that Prevost is not only the first American-born pontiff, he was born right in Chicago. Additionally, he’s also a proud graduate of Villanova University.
For Knicks fans, this is exciting because Villanova is where our stars Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges all shone and won NCAA championships.
“The VATICAN Voted In ROBERT FRANCIS PREVOST As Their 267th PONTIFF. He Is The 1st P0PE From The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Born In Chicago, Illinois. And For My NEW YAWK KNICKS FANS, His Alma Mater Is VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY (BRUNSON, HART, And BRIDGES Won NCAA Rings At VILLANOVA). What A HOLY BLESSING. THE KNICKERBOCKERS ARE G -NNA WIN THE 2024-2025 NBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. IT IS DIVINITY. GOD BLESS. ” his post read.

As one of the faces of Knicks fandom, Spike is often seen courtside at Madison Square Garden. And his enthusiasm for the team is undeniable.
However, after his enthusiastic post, many NY fans are chiming in with his narrative and connecting the dots on social media.

Whether Spike Lee is being serious or a little tongue-in-cheek, you can feel the energy in his words. He unapologetically shares his hopes for the upcoming season.
In addition to his endorsement, NBA meme pages are also making hilarious assumptions.
“Knicks got the POPE on their side?? It’s over,” the NBA Memes page wrote in a tweet.
