Kavan Markwood, the Pittsburgh Pirates fan who fell over the 21-foot Clemente Wall at PNC Park last Wednesday, has a long recovery ahead of him.

The Pittsburgh Pirates fan slipped off a railing and onto the field at PNC Park during the seventh inning of Pittsburgh’s win over the Chicago Cubs last week. Markwood was rushed to the trauma center at Allegheny General Hospital after the fall.

The organizer of his GoFundMe, Jennifer Phillips, wrote an update on his condition on Monday.

“He still has a long way to go – he’s dealing with a broken neck, clavicle, and back, so there are plenty of obstacles ahead,” she revealed.

Phillips said Kavan Markwood’s recovery is ‘a slow slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits.’

Authorities wrote on X last week that the “incident is being treated as accidental in nature.”

Markwood graduated from South Allegheny High School outside of Pittsburgh, where he was the football team’s MVP. The linebacker played at Wheeling University in 2023, appearing in five games.
