Carson Hocevar’s racing team had a great way of trolling Dallas Mavericks fans on social media Saturday.

Hocevar is in the Dallas area for the Wurth 400, which will be hosted Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway in nearby Fort Worth. Since Hocevar drives the No. 77 car, his team, Spire Motorsports, saw the opportunity to have a little fun.

“The people wanted 77 back in Dallas,” Spire posted on the team’s X page, accompanied by a picture of Hocevar.

This is a reference to the fact that Hocevar drives the same number that Luka Doncic wore with the Dallas Mavericks. Mavs fans still have not gotten over that trade, to say the least. They might not appreciate the humor, but maybe they’ll have to tip their cap for a well-done joke.

Hocevar might not exactly be at Doncic’s stature within NASCAR, but he is the reigning Rookie of the Year on the Cup Series and achieved a second-place finish at Atlanta earlier this season. He did anger some of his fellow drivers in the process, though.

Perhaps Mavericks fans who double as NASCAR fans might gravitate toward Hocevar because of the number. That is what Spire is hoping for, at least.
