Brett Favre’s wife has opened up on his struggles with addiction.

The former New York Jets quarterback has made no secret of some of the issues that have sprung up in his marriage over the years. His wife, Deanna, has also been pretty transparent when it comes to the aforementioned, as well as her cancer diagnosis and Brett’s period of addiction.

Favre and his wife are under scrutiny at the moment as he’s the subject of a new Netflix documentary, ‘Untold: The Fall of Favre.’ The documentary outlines the 2010 scandal in which he was accused of sending inappropriate photos and messages to game-day Jets host Jenn Sterger.

“I’m handling this through faith,” Deanna said about the documentary.

Brett and Deanna were high school sweethearts who grew up together in Mississippi. They met when they were 14 years old and are still married.

In an article for Guideposts, Deanna noted her husband “had become a loud, rough party animal” in college.

She also outlined his painkiller addiction, noting that he got hooked because of all the injuries he sustained, but eventually got help.

“He was horribly addicted to painkillers, partly as a result of all the injuries he played with. We got through that. He went to The Menninger Clinic and got help. We went through counseling together and he was once again the best friend I’d ever had—and by now my husband,” she wrote.

Brett Favre and his wife split up several times over the course of their marriage, but they always managed to get back together.

Deanna Favre told The Journal Times they were always sure they could remain friends if the relationship didn’t work, confessing that there were times when they saw other people after breaking up.
