Tyrese Haliburton has become the center of attention following his clutch performance in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks. Just when it seemed the game was slipping away from the Indiana Pacers, Haliburton stepped up with a crucial two-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation while forcing overtime.
Even fans and players from other teams were taken aback by the thrilling turn of events. Among them was Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain, who, like many others, assumed the Knicks had the win locked up.
But when Haliburton hit the game-tying shot, McCain couldn’t hide his excitement. The 76ers guard celebrated energetically, even mimicking Haliburton’s now-infamous “choke” gesture.

The Pacers rode the momentum into overtime and finished the job, claiming the 138-135 win on the road. With the victory, Indiana now leads the best-of-seven series 1-0. The win placed them firmly in control heading into Game 2.
Carlisle Responds To Tyrese Haliburton’s Viral ‘Choke’ Gesture

Following Haliburton’s “choke” celebration, which paid homage to Pacers legend Reggie Miller, some speculated that the NBA might hand down a fine. The league is known for scrutinizing emotionally charged gestures, especially in high-stakes moments. However, Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle quickly defended his star guard during the postgame press conference.
“Listen, players can do what they want, and it’s an emotional thing. It’s not a big deal. It’s not a big deal. We got to go out there; the place is unlikely to be any louder than it was tonight,” Carlisle said.
Game 2 between the Pacers and Knicks is scheduled for Friday. All eyes will again be on Haliburton as he looks to answer the critics who voted him the most overrated player in the NBA.
