An actor from Michael Jordan’s iconic ‘Space Jam’ film has reportedly passed away.
‘Space Jam,’ which debuted in 1996, remains a favorite to this day, and fans will be disheartened to learn that Michael Alaimo, who played an important role in the film, has died.
Alaimo, the team doctor for MJ’s squad, passed earlier this month at 86.
His daughter, Gabriella Alaimo Thomas, revealed the actor died on May 2 in Burbank, California. His cause of death was not disclosed.
The former ‘Space Jam’ doc was involved in activism with the Gut Theatre in East Harlem before he became an actor, also touring with an anti-war show called ‘F.T.A.’
He started a career as an entertainer while a theatre student at Brooklyn College, participating in Joseph Papp’s NY Shakespeare in Central Park from 1961 to 1964.
Alaimo would move to San Francisco, where he joined ‘F.T.A’ before heading out to Los Angeles, where his career took off as he landed roles in ‘Harry O’ and ‘The Six Million Dollar Man.’
Michael Alaimo Did A Lot More Than ‘Space Jam’

While he’s widely remembered for his role in ‘Space Jam,’ Alaimo has an extensive filmography, having also starred in films such as ‘Mr. Mom,’ ‘All I Want for Christmas,’ and ‘ The CHina Syndrome.’
He also had multiple television roles, including in ‘Cheers’ and ‘Scrubs,’ and, as it turns out, is the second ‘Cheers’ actor to pass this month. Actor George Wendt also died this week at the age of 76. He died peacefully in his sleep.
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend, and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” a representative said in a statement. “He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”
Our hearts go out to the families of Michael Alaimo and George Wendt. May they rest in peace.
