The NBA Finals are on but the fans are not entirely. Back in the days, the NBA used to have physical decals on their court. However, with time, the league did not continue with the same and now, the court is kept clean. However, with the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder battling it out, the calls for the physical decals to be brought back have taken over the internet. Now, with the fans abuzz, Adam Silver has finally addressed the concerns recently.
In a recent statement, the NBA Commissioner stated that the NBA Cup tournament was quite easy to plan. But when it comes to the NBA finals, utmost care must be taken in the preparation of the court. Thus, Silver pointed out that having physical decals makes the court significantly slippery. And this can be a huge problem for the players in a high-octane game like the finals.
“People don’t realize, they went away a decade ago… They were slippery. We’re back to adding them virtually,” said Silver.

Meanwhile, the ‘Finals’ logo on the court was discontinued way back in 2014. Since then, it has made a return only twice. In 2017, it appeared in a small form on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ court. And again, in 2020, the logo was part of the COVID-19 bubble court. Meanwhile, despite citing security concerns, Adam Silver teased a return for the ‘Finals’ decals.

Silver recently had some exciting news for the fans. With the fans calling the NBA out for ditching the physical decals, Silver seems to have heard them. In a recent interaction with the media, the NBA commissioner stated that he does love a hint of nostalgia. And he also went on to promise his fans to ‘look at’ the matter.
“I’m nostalgic… it’s nice when you’re looking back on highlights and they stand out because you see that trophy logo or some other indication that it’s a special event. So, we’ll look at it,” Silver told a small group of reporters during an NBA Cares charity event at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County.
