After securing the NBA title last season, the Boston Celtics shocked many by falling short in this year’s playoffs. To make matters worse, their franchise cornerstone, Jayson Tatum, ended the season with a painful injury.
The Celtics are now facing a tight financial situation. Hence, they are exploring all options to get below the second apron and avoid harsh luxury tax penalties. The front office is preparing for a transformative offseason. During a recent appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, NBA insider Shams Charania shared key details about Boston’s offseason plans.
“The primary focus, from my understanding, with the Celtics offseason is Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Sam Hauser, and their trade markets,” Charania said.
Boston is reportedly focused on trades involving Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Sam Hauser — but teams are calling about Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.

While Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis are among the key names being shopped, there may be even more movement. NBA reporter Evan Sidery noted that Jaylen Brown is no longer viewed as completely “untouchable.” Charania echoed that sentiment, indicating that Boston would consider major offers.
“And I think they’re going to get offers on the three guys that they’re focused on; they’re going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown, and I think between now and the draft and free agency, they’re going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective, and that’s where they’re going to move,” he added.
