The Atlanta Hawks have wrapped up another disappointing season, once again failing to qualify for the playoffs. Among the growing uncertainties surrounding the team is the future of veteran center Clint Capela. Capela is set to become a free agent this summer.

Speculation about Capela’s next destination has begun to heat up. One team that appears to have serious interest is the Los Angeles Lakers. According to a report from Anthony Irwin, Capela is “high on the Lakers’ target board” as the team looks to bolster its frontcourt depth in the offseason.

League sources anticipate yet another tough market for free agents this summer, but it’s not so dry that Steven Adams will be available to the Lakers, let alone Myles Turner or Naz Reid. Clint Capela is considered within reach at $5.7 million and, as such, is expected to sit pretty high on the Lakers’ target board,” the report read.

The Lakers have been searching for a reliable presence in the paint since parting ways with Anthony Davis in a trade. Capela also could fill the void for them at the center position.

Veteran center Clint Capela’s time with the Atlanta Hawks appears to be over. According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the big man will not be returning to the team in free agency.

Clint Capela will be moving on from the Hawks in free agency. Unlikely to be a starter at this point in his career, Capela is set to receive interest from contenders in need of priority backup bigs,” Sidery reported.

Though Capela saw a decrease in minutes this past season, he remained effective when on the court. In just 22.4 minutes per game, he averaged 8.9 points and 8.5 rebounds. For teams looking to shore up their second unit with an experienced big man who can anchor the paint, Capela presents an attractive option.
