The Seattle Mariners have a major issue in the right field after Victor Robles’ injury. With Leody Taveras also struggling, there’s growing speculation about acquiring an All-Star to the rescue.

As per the current rumor, the Mariners could pivot for a $8.7 million tagged Cedric Mullins from the Baltimore Orioles. Despite the Orioles’ current poor record, they were reportedly willing to trade Mullins even while contending last season.

But the trade would not be a straightforward deal for the Marlins. They would need to manage their budget to afford Mullins’ remaining salary of $8.73 million.

And it would only add to absorbing additional costs from acquiring Taveras. However, they are not near the luxury tax limit for 2025. And with their current success in the AL West, the front office may have a strong incentive to pursue a deal.

Mullins, a dependable outfielder and 2021 All-Star, could perfectly sit into the Mariners’ lineup. He has a track record of averaging 20 home runs and 29 stolen bases per year from 2021 to 2024, and has impressive stats this season as well.

Given that Mullins is a rental player, the Mariners could potentially acquire him without heavily depleting their farm system. And as per the proposed trades, they could send pitching prospects Logan Evans and Brandyn Garcia to the Orioles.

Seattle Mariners To Get Boost At Rotation With George Kirby’s Season Debut

While targeting Mullins would be an enticing idea for the Seattle Mariners, they will be getting a boost in their rotation as well.

Seattle workhorse right-hander George Kirby is set to make his season debut on Thursday night as the Mariners begin a four-game series against the Astros.

Kirby has been on the injured list since March 24 due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder. The Mariners are hoping to add his services to their rotation. Kirby would be a great addition, given that the Mariners are currently missing opening-day starter Logan Gilbert.

Last season, Kirby started 33 games, tying for the major league lead, and finished with a record of 14-11 and a 3.53 ERA. He also amassed 179 strikeouts and 23 walks across 191 innings.

He was also named an AL All-Star in 2023, making 31 starts with a record of 13-10 and a 3.35 ERA in 190 2/3 innings.

After his injury diagnosis, Kirby made just one appearance during the 2025 spring training and subsequently had three rehab starts at Triple-A Tacoma.
